Checking Out Rovr Coolers at Outdoor Retailer

Rovr coolers is a roto-molded cooler company based out of Boulder, CO. While their main competitors are products from YETI, RTIC, Pelican, and more, all Rovr coolers are wheeled making them easy to transport and get from car to campsite and back again.

One of the main points most cooler makers talk about is ice retention. While most advertise their products as being able to keep ice cool for days at a time, this usually only occurs if the cooler is ‘prepped’. What this means is the cooler is chilled using ice, then the melted ice is poured out and refreshed again. Using this sacrificial ice chills the inside of the cooler helping the new, fresh ice last longer. Most people don’t do this though, as it is not very efficient, so the cooler typically gets pulled out of a hot garage, filled with ice, then opened and closed repeatedly at the campsite or beach.

Rovr stash bin

To get around this issue, Rovr has a unique dry storage bin that sits inside all of their coolers. Most of the competition has small racks you can add, but with Rovr this storage bin takes up half of the cooler. When placed inside, it has a small buffer between it and the bottom of the cooler allowing the ice melt to flow underneath it. This means it stays cold, but everything in the storage bin will be kept dry. For the 45L cooler there are 2 compartments in the storage bin and in the 60L and 80L coolers there are 3.

All Rovr coolers also have multiple anchor points around the outside so you can attach their various accessories to it. Here is what they offer:

  • Cutting board (neatly stashes inside the cooler)
  • Beverage holder
  • Fishing pole or umbrella holder
  • Stash bag

The features don’t stop there though. On the top of a cooler is a foldable storage bin. In it’s folded position it works as a padded seat and when opened it can be used to put all sorts of things inside. The team at Rovr designed it so it would be big enough to fit a beach chair which means you’ll be able to pack all sorts of things inside. This storage bin keeps your hands free and lets you pull everything you need in one go and is available on all of their coolers. For the 45L size, the storage bin has stretchy sides so it’ll still fit a beach chair even with its smaller dimensions.

On the topic of pulling, the coolers use a sturdy reinforced handle that tucks into the side of the cooler. On the 60L and 80L coolers, there is a handle that is designed to fit almost everyone. If you check, you’ll find that your hands fall at a similar point to everyone else’s. This meant a smartly designed handle could be built in that fits most people. When using the handle, every 100lbs in the cooler is about equal to 25lbs at the handle and is designed to be held at the side, versus behind you.

To help keep things rolling, Rovr coolers use a full, solid axle. They say it is strong enough to roll the cooler right out of the back of a truck and onto the ground.
